OUR HISTORY

In 1994, Shiri Rosenzweig opened the door to the first Carré store, thereby placing her fantastic jewellery universe in the heart of beautiful, old Copenhagen.

The store functions not only as a showcase for new and enchanting jewellery, but also for the diverse and fascinating curiosities that Shiri Rosenzweig brings home from travels and markets all over the world.

Carré Jewellery is headquartered in central Copenhagen. Our jewellery is sold – besides in our own stores and on our webshop – in selected webshops, stores, and exclusive department stores around the world.

A LOVE OF GEMS

Gemstones are nature's wonders. Each gemstone has its own unique character. The colour of gemstones is nature's fantastic creations. They range from transparent to completely opaque. In combination with each other, they create colourful magic by highlighting each other's shades. Gemstones are most often cut in various forms of facets or as cabochon, depending on the structure, density, and colour of the gemstone.

At Carré Jewellery, we have used over 900 different gemstones since 1991 and our mission is to spread the experience of owning jewellery in precious metals set with the most beautiful gemstones.

THE WOMAN BEHIND

I was born in Tel Aviv in 1966. My mother is Danish and my father is Israeli.

Diamonds have always been an important part of my life. In 1991, I obtained my grading certificate, which allowed me to sell diamonds professionally.

Soon I opened my eyes to jewellery, pearls, and gemstones, and a whole new world opened up for me. Since then, I have had countless gemstones in my hands and worked with over 900 different types of gemstones – and a multitude of different cuts.

The fascination with the character of the stones, and the way they can be combined in jewellery, is the driving force in my work.

CARRÉ X MARIE RUD ROSENZWEIG

CARRÉ AND MARIE RUD ROSENZWEIG

Artist Marie Rud Rosenzweig's whimsical universe has influenced Carré for many years.

In 2011, Marie created a series of 20 collages on the occasion of Carré's 20th anniversary. The collages adorn our jewellery boxes, gift bags, and a net in organic cotton. Since then, Marie has also decorated our store in central Copenhagen with hand-painted stripes, and most recently, in 2023, Carré commissioned a unique sculpture from Marie in 30 numbered copies, which she subsequently decorated individually. Thus, Marie has contributed to Carré's visual identity for many years.

In many ways, Shiri's playful combination of colourful gemstones shares the artist's expression of colour, composition, and feeling. Shiri and Marie find common ground – not only through their close family relationship – but in their shared passion for colour and composition.

Marie Rud Rosenzweig graduated from the Funen Art Academy in 2022 and has previously studied at Universität der Künste in Berlin and Düsseldorf Art Academy. Marie works with painting, installation, and text, and is currently involved in several exhibitions both domestically and internationally.

The sculptures are cast by Peter Funder at Brdr. Funder's foundry. A state-of-the-art casting workshop that works with Danish and international artists as well as major restoration projects in Denmark and abroad. Brdr. Funder's historic workshop is still located in the heart of Copenhagen.

The images from Funder's workshop are used in our Atelier collection as an illustration of Shiri Rosenzweig's fondness for the workshop as the raw frame around the creative process. A newer process where the creation of handmade jewellery is set with the most beautiful gemstones. These collections, which so far are found in the Marisa and Atelier collections, are produced in small series and have become a fixed part of Carré's universe.

"The light in me sees the light in you"

— Namesté means "The light in me sees the light in you". This beautiful greeting from the East inspires us daily. It reminds us that Carré Jewellery's sources of inspiration, color universe and values are largely found in the East.
