THE GEMMOLOGY OF KYANITE
Kyanite consists of aluminium and silicon. This gemstone can be found in shades of blue, grey, green, brown, orange, and colourless. However, the blue colour is the most well-known. Blue Kyanite often shows several shades of blue with white veins running through the gemstone. Kyanite can appear transparent to semi-transparent.
This gemstone is unusual when it comes to hardness, as one of its axes is harder than the other. One axis of kyanite is rated at 5, while the other is rated at 7 according to the Mohs hardness scale. Kyanite can be mined in Myanmar, Brazil, Kenya, the USA, Scotland, Austria, and Switzerland.
