SYMBOLISM
Tanzanite is the gemstone for intuition and perception. A good gemstone for sensuality and awareness, it is a rare gemstone said to help sweep away old patterns and manifest powers for better doing.

SPIRITUALITY
The purple gemstone, Tanzanite, is said to facilitate a higher level of consciousness as well as stimulate intuition and perception. Tanzanite is said to have healing properties that help with various spiritual issues as well as balancing the mind and body and increasing the vitality of its wearer.
As a deep purple and blue gemstone, Tanzanite is connected to the third eye and throat chakra. This is always a sign of healing when a stone works closely with these two chakras. Wear Tanzanite when you are in situations where you need to calm down and work on breaking old patterns.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR TANZANITE JEWELLERY
To keep your Tanzanite jewellery shiny and clean, it is recommended to clean it once in a while depending on how often you use the jewelry. To clean your Tanzanite jewellery, use warm water, mild soap and a soft brush to remove dirt and grime on and around the stone. Remember to clean the jewellery with clean water after cleaning, as the soap can make the stone dull if it sits for too long. It is not recommended to use ultrasonic or steam cleaners to clean your jewellery with Tanzanite.
Remember that you can always have your Carré jewellery professionally cleaned at your Carré store.

HISTORY
Tanzanite is only found in one place on earth and is a relatively new discovery. Tiffany & Co. named this blue-violet variant of zoisite in honor of Tanzania where the gemstone was discovered in 1967. The tanzanite’s beautiful colour is activated by heat, and was thus only discovered after lightning struck the otherwise dull brown stone, and made the gemstone shine in a rare violet blue hue.

GEMMOLOGY OF TANZANITE
Tanzanite is the blue-violet variant of a zoisite gemstone. Tanzanite is 6.5-7 on the Mohs hardness scale, which measures the hardness of the gemstone on a scale of 1-10, and is therefore approximately the same hardness as a quartz gemstone.
Tanzanite is only mined in Tanzania, high up in the Merelani mountains, which sit at the foot of Kilimanjaro.

PLEOCHROIC GEMSTONE
Tanzanite is a pleochroic gemstone, which means that it shows different colors depending on the angle from which it is viewed. Since Tanzanite shows different colors, it is possible for stone cutters to achieve their desired color by cutting the stone at a certain angle.
Tanzanite can be obtained in many colors, from blue-violet to royal blue and purple.
